You
have an advantage over most pet owners. Reptiles can fare very well on their own
during and after a hurricane. One of the problems for lots of animals is the
high heat and humidity that occurs after a storm. Reptiles usually do well in
that type of an environment. Even if they don’t thrive in high humidity
environments, they tolerate it well. I
do not recommend traveling with them, as most people just plain do not like
them, so you welcome is very limited. But if you feel like you must, the best
way to transport them is to put them in a cloth sack (pillowcase), put them in a
Styrofoam cooler with a few holes punched in the side, a damp cloth in the
bottom, and you are good for several days. After that, they will need to be
watered, but food is not really necessary at that time. To
leave them at home, place their cage on top of a dresser or table, make a
“tent” out of waterproof material so that water and debris doesn’t get in
the cage. Clean
the cage thourghly and feed as normal. If we are a carnivore, do not leave any
food at all. If an herbivore and we only eat fresh foods or “moist” foods,
feed and then remove the leftover. If we eat dry or prepared type foods, you can
leave some in. Make
sure we have clean water. And
we are ready. You may want to put tape on the top to prevent anything from
knocking off the top. Good
Luck
